A2: How Open Caching is Transforming the Streaming Ecosystem

The growth of live and on-demand streaming video is accelerating around the world. This growth is part of a broader and unstoppable transformation from broadcast television to Internet TV. The streaming ecosystem is responding with an evolving Internet architecture that includes an open cache layer, deep in ISP networks, which performs an essential streaming optimization function with benefits for the entire streaming ecosystem. Content Providers benefit from improved Quality of Experience (QoE). CDNs benefit by leveraging Open Cache systems as a CDN extension deep in the ISP network. Finally, ISPs benefit as the open cache creates lower cost capacity and higher quality stream delivery in a shared and virtualized layer at the network edge. This presentation will provide data from real world open cache deployments which show the performance of open caching in ISP networks, including the impact on network economics and the improvement in consumer Quality of Experience.
